On the other side of the door...

Hell...

No, no fire and brimstone. A large room, half living room, half office, tastefully decorated and furnished. Thick carpet, a big couch, several recliners, an old-style desk, bookshelves, filing cabinets... and a computer too.

Classical music plays in the background and the delicate scent of incense hangs in the air.

"Welcome dear, welcome to my house. Enter freely and of your own free will! Go safely when you must, and leave something of the happiness you bring!"

The Devil steps aside to let Faye enter.

"Perhaps I should look elsewhere to get a better look at your work?" She moves toward another nearby sphere.

The next one shows a casino, people gambling, drinking and having a good time... next one shows a totally different scenario, a group of warriors fighting mosntrous hordes... and obviously enjoying victory...

Checking spheres shows all kinds of people, artists, fighters, hermits, nerds and jocks... each of them doing what they like the most, facing just enough challenge to keep their eternal lives interesting.

She nods a bit, walking back to the Devil.

"You do a lot of work to keep them happy," she says. "But why? Why them?"

"Each of them did something that impressed me... that raised them from the seas of humanity. A good mix of pride, will, common sense and a special sine qua non."

She gestures around. "So, I bring them here and give them this. When I am feeling much like releasing a plague to wipe humanity, I come here and remind myself that once in a while someone interesting pops up among the herd."

"I don't know why I'm surprised that there are so relatively few of them compared to the billions who have lived and died since humanity began," she says. "But I am."

She shrugs.

"Oh, but most people would not like to catch my attention." She smirks. "And really, most of those who to try to get it, fail."

She tugs Faye into a hug. Just a hug.

The Devil gives nice, warm and comforting hugs.

Faye, despite her mind screaming that this was wrong, hugs back.

"I kind of get the feeling that I've got your attention somehow."

"Milliways rarely picks the mediocre ones, dear. And you are almost as lonely as I am." The Devil lets out a small sigh.

She blinks and tilts her head, opens her mouth to say something, and then just nods.

"We're a strange pair, but I could see us being friends, sure."

"Oh, thanl you, I would like that. But I might try to make you embarassed too.." She grins. "It is part of being sin and temptation incarnate."

She smirks. "As long as you don't mind my sarcastic wit and snarky quips, we'll be all right."

The Devil smirks and kisses her.

Its is a demonic kiss, very much toe-curling, with pure essence of Lust.

Snark that, is the challenge.

Faye yanks herself away, a horrified expression on her face. "What are you doing?!" she cries, tears beginning to sparkle in her eyes.

"Testing you." The Devil is not sorry. She never is, just sometimes she pretends to be. "Learning more about you in a gesture than hours of conversation could tell me."

"If you want, feel free to hit me. I think you need to really hit someone, without joking, without excuses. And I just gave you a reason." Indulgence number two, Wrath. Or it was Envy just a bit ago, making this one the third?

Faye shakes her head. "No. I don't know what kind of game you're playing, but I won't hit you."

"I am not playing a game, dear; I am offering you a reason and a chance to vent some of your anger." And she is. This time. "It is not like you can actually hurt me, but sometimes, there is nothing better than the feel of flesh giving way under your fists."

"I think I'll take up tae kwon do instead, thanks." She steps away from the Devil.

There is a glint of something in her eye...

Almost as lonely as I am, she said. She can not help it but alienate people. taunt and tease and offend them. And drive them away.

"Good. Now, can you see?"

"See what?" There's open anger and mistrust in her eyes as she watches the Devil.

"Good. Nobody does, ever." She offers a hand, and suddenly, looks all to human and tired. "Shall we? There is one more thing I would like to show you."

She's still staring at the Princess of Darkness with mistrust, but since there's no way out of here, she takes the Devil's hand once more.

"What is it?"

"A secret. That you will think is a trick, as I expect you to." Up into the air, faye is wrapped in light as the Devil's form melts into... ethereal essence.

"It is not far... but then again, this is my domain, everything is as close or as far as I wish."

Faye waits, nervous, her hands balling into tight little fists.

"Show me, and we shall see."

Down, now, in a long, steep but not too fast dive. It gets cold, and colder; Hell is supposed to be hot, right?

"I can give you a coat when we get to the bottom."

"Okay." She's confused, and she looks around as the two descend.
