A mussed up bed, and two figures on it.

One is the Devil. Stroking someone's hair.

"I almost kissed her..." Spoken in her usual mischievous tone.

And the other is not, and very happy that he is not.

"Why didn't you?" he murmurs, glancing up at her. "I would've."

"Well, it would have been... strange? Not for you, but for her, if she ever learns of our little experience."

"I would prefer to kiss her because she wanted to be kissed by me, not you..."

"I met her, as you," he says. "It seems to me that you could have a friendship with her, if you wanted to, but... no, I don't think she feels for you the way she does for me. I'd be disappointed if she did."

"Another reason to not kiss her." She leans down to nuzzle his chest. "She is your muse now..."

"She is wonderful," he says softly, toying with hair. "It won't last; nothing ever does. But I am enjoying the journey all the same."

"May last longer than you and her, my dear..." Scarlet closes eyes, leaning into the touch.

"You know some very strange people, dearest," he murmurs, by way of changing the subject. "I hope I didn't disturb any of your plans. Didn't want to be too aggressive and get you into anything you didn't want to have happen, though I'm sure you could always find your way out again."

"Oh my dear, you definitely should have... dancing my way out of strange situations would have been much fun indeed." She gives him a kiss and grin. "But yes, strange people, that is good..."

"I did tell that charming young man that he could name the triplets you're having together," he admits with a chuckle. "You're on your own with that one. Beyond that, I think I mostly bored people."

"Vyv... I was wondering where he had disappeared to." The Devil laughs. "I had much fun this week, my dear..."

"I'm glad," he says. "I had... an interesting time, certainly. I'm not sure I would call all of it fun, though. But definitely interesting."

"And provided you with more insight on me?" Hopefully so.

"I'd like to think so," he says, "but I suspect that no one can ever truly understand you completely."

"I was not made to be understood, even, my dear..." Scarlet settles down against his chest, enjoying the closeness. "Oh yes, you had drinks with a woman named Amanda, and discussed the nature of godhood versus simple immortality too."

"Did we get along?" he asks, tracing a finger idly along her back. "I'm not always known for my conversational skills."

"I let her do most of the talking, answering just enough to keep her interested."

"Oh, I almost lost it with Teja, I was itching to tease him..."

"...tease him how?" he asks, eyebrow raised. "I was friendly with him, as you. If he doesn't give himself a party when he moves to his beloved's world, we are going to have to give him one. I hope you don't mind."

"I like the unusual."

She grins. "I almost teased him like I would have done as myself..."

"...how would you tease him as yourself?" he asks, with a chuckle. "Talking about things that make him uncomfortable? It used to be much easier to do that than it is now."

"And would be suspicious, acting not-you." She kisses Weyland's chest. "A party sounds like a very good idea..."

[mechanicalswans]

"I used to push limits with him, now and then," he admits. "Just to see where he would draw the line. It's much harder to do, now; he is less sheltered, more open to ideas that may once have seemed unthinkable to him."

A pause, as he nuzzles the top of her head.

"Take care of him, if you would, my dearest. He is a descendant of my brother's people, and so a very distant kinsman of mine. I consider him to be under my protection, though he does not know that."
